About This Painting: The majestic “LAPIS LAZULI” is one of our original Wildlife Jewels® paintings which features The Elephant. The intricate details are inspired by the patterns of tropical fish, wild cats, and the classic beauty of Indo-European designs. The stunning Eephant is decorated with tiny golden dots resembling gold and gemstones.
The Elephant: Elephants can be found in sub-Saharan Africa, South Asia, and Southeast Asia different habitats including savannahs, forests, deserts and marshes. They are emotional, highly intelligent, social and live in their family groups generally led by the eldest elephant. Elephants can live up to 70 years, they communicate by touch, sight, smell and sound. Elephant intelligence has been compared with that of primates and cetaceans. They are known to have self-awareness and show empathy. Unfortunately elephants are being tortured as working animals and poached to extinction for their ivory tusks. More than 100,000 elephants have been killed in Africa the last three years. Every 15 minutes one elephant is killed for it's tusks. African elephants are listed as vulnerable and the Asian elephant is classed as endangered. If nothing changes elephants may become extinct within the next 50 years. Lapis Lazuli has been a long time treasured gemstone dates back as early as 400B.C, remeniscent of the stars shining in the night sky. We are honored to be collaborating with selected Wildlife Conservation Foundations, scientists, and technologists to help save The Elephant.
